Meet our Team!

Billy: Director

Billy's desire to work in international development built whilst studying an MSc in Environmental Change and International Development at the University of Sheffield. As part of the course he conducted research in rural Nepal and at UNEP-WCMC in Cambridge. This gave him his first experience of the sector and in 2016, Billy started working for SEED Madagascar. After living in southeast Madagascar for 13 months, Billy brought his skills and experiences to KHT. Starting as the Programmes Officer in 2017, Billy later relocated to Thailand and in 2019, Billy became the Director of KHT. He is really excited to be a part of KHT and the KHT team.

Salahae: Programme Director

Salahae (Thai name: Wichien Bunrachaisawan) manages all of our operations in Thailand. He has 30 years of experience working on water and sanitation projects in Mae Hong Son, and has since designed our food security project and began to oversee our education programme. Salahae has also worked with over 500 volunteers since 1986, including Richard Worsley, whose story is central to the foundation of KHT in 1999. He lives in Khun Yuam with his wife and 2 children, and has completed a degree in Public Administration.

Nootsabar: Operations Manager

Nootsabar Pranomporn has been working with KHT since 2006. She comes from the remote Karen village of Huai Koo Pa near Mae La Noi. After receiving a KHT sponsorship for her university degree in Business Administration, she started working for the Trust. Over the past 10 years she has taken up responsibilities for all the administration and documentation for the projects and volunteers. Nootsabar also helps to run our education projects and collects information for donor reports

Aka: Construction Manager

Aka joined KHT in 2004 after working for COERR in Karen refugee camps. He is the construction manager for water projects, which requires him to organise and coordinate teams of up to 50 Karen volunteers in each village and also university volunteers from the UK. He now lives in Khun Yuam with his wife and son.

Du: Data Collection Specialist

Du comes from the Karen village of Ban Pattana, close to Khun Yuam. He has been working for KHT since 2005. For a number of years, he was the tractor driver working on livelihoods projects. He also has experience working on irrigation projects, and now often works on our busy water and sanitation programme. Over the last year, Du has been trained to become our new Data Collection Specialist and can now often be seen at our projects conducting interviews with all the community.

Veera: Construction Technician

Veera was originally a Karen volunteer on a water project in Ban Kham Suk, a Karen village near Khun Yuam, in 2000. Salahae noticed his skills while working on a water project and he has now been involved in the construction of a further 138 systems in different villages. Veera still lives in Ban Kham Suk with his two children.

Somboon: Construction Technician

Somboon comes from a remote village close to the Burma border. He joined the KHT team in 2008, and took responsibility for constructing latrine units and training villagers. Water and sanitation facilities are both equally important, and he is highly skilled at building them both, now having completed around 2000.

Diane: Finance Administrator

Diane has been working with KHT since May 2017 having previously held a business and finance support role for a UK software test consultancy.  Having read about the work the Trust does, in helping and supporting the Karen people building a better future for themselves, Diane decided that working for KHT would be both fulfilling and rewarding and is now enjoying her new role in the UK office dealing with finance and administration.

Teow: Finance Administrator

Teow joined the KHT team in November 2017. She comes from a remote Karen village in the Mae La Noi district called Ban Huay Ku. As part of KHT’s education programme, Teow received school meals whilst at secondary school and subsequently a KHT scholarship to study accounting at university. She graduated in 2014 and then worked in the distribution sector in Chiang Mai. Teow joins KHT as our Finance Administrator, based in our Khun Yuam Office. After KHT supported her through her education, she is excited to start giving back to KHT.

Fenella: Health Programme Officer

Fenella joined the team in March 2020 to work as Health Programme Officer and is based in Thailand. She is a recent graduate from her MSc in International Public Health at the Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine after studying Tropical Disease Biology at the University of Liverpool.

As well as studying the impact of communicable diseases around the world, Fenella has a keen interest in international development organisations. In particular organisations offering volunteering which she herself has taken part in across Africa and Asia. For her MSc thesis she conducted research alongside VSO in Uganda on how to maximise the mutual benefit of medical volunteering for the volunteer, local communities and healthcare services.

Fenella is looking forward to working with KHT and to living in Khun Yuam over the next year.
