Local York businesses get together to raise over £5,000 for KHT

This Christmas season saw the KHT team don their best frocks for an evening of festivity and fundraising, as local businesses from the York Trusted Professionals (YTP) network came together to host a Charity Ball in aid of the Karen Hilltribes Trust, as their nominated charity of the year.

The YTP, who meet weekly to share and promote their services, managed to raise over £5,000 for KHT. The event took place in the York Novotel Hotel and was attended by 115 people representing the 21 local businesses from the network.

The evening kicked off with champagne, canapes and the sounds of local York musicians the ‘Y Street Band’, followed by a three course feast. Funds were raised through the sale of tickets, an exciting raffle, a silent auction that saw attendees making generous bids on prizes donated by YTP businesses, with everything from a sports massage to a holiday cottage on the Isle of Skye on offer, and the sale of handmade Karen silver. The colossal amount which was raised will aid KHT in its aim to bring sustainable change to the poorest province, Mae Hong Son, in Northern Thailand.

Our Director William Harnden praised the success of the event and the efforts of the YTP:

“This was the most successful fundraising event I have been part of in my last three years at the charity. A huge thank-you to the York Trusted Professionals, now we have a huge boost for our key projects in Thailand next year!”
