Frequently Asked Questions

Will it cost money to leave a gift in my Will?

Although dependent on your choice of Solicitor, on average a Will costs between £100 and £200 to write. Your Will is a very important document however, and allows you to save your family the potential problems that can arise if you do not have one.

Do I need to be wealthy to leave a gift in my Will?

You do not need to be wealthy to leave a gift. Any size of gift pledged will be greatly appreciated and help change the lives of the Karen, giving them a brighter future.

How will KHT use my gift?

All the money we receive from your gift will go towards helping the Karen, the poorest group in Northern Thailand, to one day be able to support themselves towards a sustainable future. We are dedicated to working alongside the Karen people, to meet their basic needs in life; clean water, enough food and a life changing education. If you would like your gift to go towards a specific element of our work, we will do our best to make sure this happens. It can however be years before we receive your gift so it is difficult to know exactly how and where we will be working but we will ensure your gift is put to where the need is greatest.

What are the benefits of leaving money to charity?

If you choose to leave part of your assets to charity in your Will your Inheritance Tax will be lowered. Any gifts made to charity are also not subject to tax, ensuring they receive the full amount. We would advise you to consult a Solicitor, however, for specific tax advice.

Do I need a Solicitor to write my Will?

We advise that you do use a Solicitor to ensure your Will is worded correctly, is deemed valid and to ensure you receive the correct legal advice.

Where can I find a Solicitor?

The Law Society offer a free find a Solicitor service. To find out more information either visit their website or phone them on 020 7320 5650.

Do I need to tell KHT if I leave a gift in my will to the charity?

You do not have to tell us if you have left a gift to KHT in your Will, but if you do it will enable us to acknowledge your generosity and help us plan for the future. We can also keep you up to date with all our ongoing work. This can be done through contacting our fundraising team.
