Home Volunteering Improving Education

What you'll help to achieve...

Over 600 karen children have benefited from our volunteers coming to teach English and working with their teachers. Thanks to this support, we have been able to sponsor 100 Karen students through university.

Where does it lead...?

Thanks to the help from our gap year volunteers, some of our students have gone on from university to become nurses and many more are now leading better, brighter futures. You'll be helping the Karen to help themselves.

Karen helping Karen...

As a direct result of the work we carry out in Thailand, with the help of our volunteers, we have found that after graduation the vast majority of the Karen are keen to return to help their communities. We are already employing one Karen graduate.

As a volunteer you will not only touch the lives of your students but the lives of the families and communities you live with. For both parties it is a rare exchange of culture, laughter, entertainment and friendship that will help you not only find yourself but also find out how much more their is to life.

Struggling Karen children, hindered solely by speaking Karen at home and often weak from walking miles from their isolated villages without food in their stomachs, gain confidence as they are helped to learn their third language.

Volunteer teachers are a valuable resource to the Karen people. Your experience of the English language and western school systems enables you to teach with fun, energy and enthusiasm, providing variety and excitement in the school lives of all the children you encounter.
