Teacher Training

Karen hill tribe people naturally speak Karen but the children must learn Thai as well as English (English is on the national curriculum). Facilities are very limited at primary school, putting them at a distinct disadvantage when they get to secondary school.

KHT aims to improve the standards of teaching English by working together with the local Thai and Karen teachers, both at primary and secondary level. The KHT teacher training program plans to employ Karen teachers who will be trained by volunteer English (TEFL) teachers. These teachers will then support others through further training courses and follow up with hands on support in the class room. The exciting aspect of this program is that KHT is empowering the Karen people to take a lead in helping their own people to build a better future. Teachers will need dictionaries, books and DVDs. Karen teachers will need to be sponsored. We need to raise £10,000 a year to run this program.
