This July, I will be spending 1 month on a project to install a water filtration and storage system for a Karen village in northern Thailand.

The Karen Hill tribes are a minority group in Thailand who are very poor and live in very primitive conditions. The project will provide clean drinking water for a community who currently have to collect water from the polluted river and boil it. Without clean water, typhoid cases are high.

I am one of 8 UK student volunteers who will stay with this tribe and assist tribe members with the system's installation. The benefits of our presence are cultural exchange, inspiration to this very poor minority group, additional labour and most importantly raising the funds needed for the project.

All of the money raised will be used to fund this project in the village including all the building materials and equipment. I have donated £150, my earnings from last summer's farm work, to this project.
