Sponsor Sophie Lusty

Leeds Half Marathon

I am currently raising sponsorship to run the Leeds half marathon in September. Which if I’m honest I’m slightly terrified about as I don’t think I’ve even run 7 miles continuously let alone 13 miles! Any encouragement will be delightfully received and will motivate me to get training for it.

Fundraising Target: £1750.00

about me: I'm Sophie and in October I will be one of the volunteers heading out to Thailand to spend 6 months with the KHT, teaching English and living with a Karen family. I can't wait not only because I will be spending time in a tropical paradise along with the many mosquitoes out there, but also this gives me the chance to challenge myself, meet lots of new people and learn about a completely new culture whilst helping for a worthwhile cause and having a great time at the same time. I love music, drama and sport and I will hopefully be able to share this with the children I will be teaching.

I feel that the KHT is a worthy cause to be working for .The money raised will help the Karen Hill Tribes be able to lead a more stable life. Any donated money will go towards introducing water systems delivering clean water and mosquito nets, allowing the Karen get on with their every day lives, without worrying about the threat of disease. Education is another area in which the trust focuses on. Education for the Karen children is very limited with only 1 out of 4 children going to secondary school, either because the schools are too far away - which the trust is trying to resolve by supplying school buses or because their english is not as good as their Thai contemporaries- a factor which as part of a team I will be helping towards. Any support would be welcome and hugely appreciated!
