We were excited to be invited to participate in this trek by Barney and Mary Smith. (Barney is a trustee of the charity) Mary and Anthea were friends at school! We are keen walkers but this will be a challenge.... as will raising the £2,000 each!!
The Karen are the largest of the hill tribe groups living in northern Thailand. This is an opportunity to do something practical to help people still living at subsistence level, on less than US $1 a day. Your donation, ideally Gift Aided, will be used on village-level projects to: -improve health by providing clean water - purchase mosquito nets to protect against malaria - provide better access to education (currently 75% of Karen children do not complete their education) - help establish self-sustainable projects such as the innovative 'rice banks' which you can read about on the website.
