KHT Sponsored Jungle Trek

The Karen Hilltribes Trust's first sponsored Jungle Trek will celebrate 8 years of making a difference in northern Thailand. Our aim is for a group of 15 walkers, plus 4 leaders to raise approximately £50,000 for the charity.

The Trek:

This Jungle Trek offers 14 days in some of the most remote mountainous areas of northern Thailand, visiting villages where no tourists have been before. Starting with two nights in the Bodhi Serene Hotel in downtown Chiang Mai, you will then travel 100 miles west to spend a night in the guest house in the small town of Khun Yuam. Here the Karen hill tribe adventure will begin.

Over the next 7 days you will trek through beautiful hardwood forest, covering a distance of approximately 10 kilometres a day, and spend 3 nights sleeping under the stars and 4 nights sleeping in the Karen villages. It will be very cold at night but warm in the day - so expect a challenge, but not beyond a fit person's capabilities!

The final stage of the trek will take you back for two nights in the Bodhi Serene Hotel in Chiang Mai for a special Gala dinner. You will have time to see some of the oldest temples in Thailand and visit the myriad of shops.

These mountain forests are inhabited by the Karen hill tribes who have a long and interesting history in this remote part of the world. The Karen people will journey with you acting as guides and providing porters to carry minimal luggage and help with cooking. They will teach you about traditional Karen culture and how to live from the forest.

Cost:

Each walker will be required to raise £2,000 for the charity and pay an additional sum (expected to be around £1000) to cover the cost of return airfares to Thailand, hotel accommodation, local transport and meals. As a charity we can receive gift aid on donations from UK taxpayers adding an extra 28%. If you are coming from the US we can discuss how to make your contribution tax effective.
