Teaching English in Thailand

I've set up this site to try to raise money to donate to The Karen Hilltribes Trust, as this summer I am planning to volunteer with the Trust in a Karen community in the mountainous regions of north-west Thailand.

For 2 months I will be living with a Karen family in a remote village in the Mae Hong Son province and teaching English in a local school supported by the Trust. For most of the children at this school English will be their third language!

Fundraising Target: £500.00

Total Raised To Date: £100.00

This coming June, directly after "May Week", I'll be heading down to London to do a sponsored walk along the "Jubilee Walkway" to try and raise a target of £500. The 14 mile walk, originally laid down in 1977 for The Queen's Silver Jubilee, is the capital's leading walking trail and connects a large number of London’s tourist attractions.

The Walkway comprises of 5 circular routes, beginning with the 6 mile Western Loop walk through the heart of the city. The second phase of the journey encompasses the Eastern Loop walk along the Thames and this is followed by the City Loop walk nearby St Paul's Cathedral. The forth route, aptly named the Camden Loop, starts and finishes on Chancery lane and the Walkway finishes with the Jubilee Loop walk past Buckingham Palace and the Houses of Parliament.

Currently 3 out of 4 Karen children never get the chance to go to school because their parents cannot afford to send them. It costs just £100 to pay for a Karen child's education for a whole year and just £5 to provide transport and books to send a child to school for a month. All the money I raise will be Gift Aided, so for every £1 you donate, the Karen Hilltribes Trust can claim an extra 28p direct from the Government.

Thank you for your donations!
