I have just graduated from University of Durham with a 2:1 in Anthropology and Sociology. I am now interested in starting a career in International Development and thought that the best way to begin this was to get some real experience abroad. I am looking forward to spending time, living with a Karen family, and learning about their culture and their way of life.
I will be teaching English, as well as hopefully carrying out some research throughout the different villages where the Karen Hilltribes Trust have projects, I will also be helping the Karen build a water system for their village.
Any money that you donate will go to The Karen Hilltribes Trust (Reg charity 1093548) which has projects focused on improving health, supporting education and providing a sustainable income for the Karen. By improving education, The Karen Hilltribes Trust is giving the Karen opportunities for the future. The projects include transport to school, dormitories for those who live too far away to attend school otherwise, and the opportunity for some of a scholarship to go to University.
Installing a new water system will give local people clean water which is reducing diseases such as typhoid and dysentery. A new water system will give individuals a better chance in life and will improve their health. This is a very important project and will make a big difference to the lives of the Karen people.
