Teaching in Thailand

I recently graduated from Battle Mountain High School and have decided to take a year off before I begin with college. I would like to do something meaningful and of value with my time off from school and so have decided to volunteer with the Karen Hill Tribe Trust based out of York, England. As the largest "hill tribe" in Thailand, the Karen are struggling to progress due to both poor hygiene and lack of equipment/technology. As a volunteer, I will be living in a remote village of Northern Thailand where I will teach English and help with the installation of a water system.

I am an enthusiastic and outgoing individual who loves challenges and trying new things. One of my greatest passions is traveling. I can't think of anything more exhilarating than meeting new people, witnessing exotic landscapes, learning new languages, understanding different cultures, and seeing life from a fresh and different perspective. I like being able to share my customs with the people and places I visit and also having the opportunity to share my traveling experiences with others once I have returned home.

The money raised will be used to aid the Karen people with certain necessities such as clean water, toilets, mosquito nets, blankets, and school materials; things we take for granted every day. Clean water and toilets will provide for better sanitation and help stop the spread of typhoid, while mosquito netting will reduce the spread of malaria. Funds will also be used for some of my own needs during this volunteer placement such as travel costs and vaccinations.

It's easy to forget about those less fortunate than us. But these people have so much potential, and with a little help from you, the Karen will be able to flourish. Please help me in supporting the Karen people of Northern Thailand. Help to provide them with a brighter future! Every penny helps! Thank you!
