Teaching in Thailand

In october 2008 I will be heading to Thailand with the Karen Hilltribes Trust to teach english for 6 months. After this I will hopefully spend more time out there building a fresh water system! To raise money for this exciting and worth while adventure I will be doing, among other things, a sponsered silence! Anyone who knows me will realise how difficult this will be! Lets just say I'm a little chatty! I will not say a word for a whole 24hours! And would really appreciate it if you would sponsor me for achieving the near impossible!!

Fundraising Target: £800.00

As I have already mentioned, I like to talk! I have quite a bubbly personality and find it easy to chat to anyone. As I already speak a little French and Spanish the opportunity to learn Thai is something I am eager to take on as this will allow me to communicate with even more people around the world. I am in my last year of school and after my time in Thailand I hope to study Religion and Theology in university with the aim of becoming a secondary school teacher. My six month placement in Thailand will allow me to do what I am passionate about as I will work as a teacher. Encouraging people to fulfil their potential and working with children of all ages is something that I would appreciate. There are so many reasons why I want to visit Thailand with KHT: I want to know how other people and cultures think, to increase my understanding of the world and the issues that surround us. I also want to escape from my own small, safe community and push myself out of my comfort zone. I am so eager to make a difference, to help the people that have it so much harder than I ever had and to appreciate their way of life. I would like to meet new people and make new friends. I would like to increase my knowledge so I can understand myself and develop my own views and opinions. I want to know more!!!

The Karen Hilltribes Trust supports education by providing training, resources and transport. The Trust also aims to improve health by installing clean water systems in remote villages which greatly reduces diseases such as dysentery, malaria and typhoid. With this help the Karen people can then concentrate on makeing a living to support themselves.
